Many of us take the skills we have naturally acquired for granted, and for some people, such as those with intellectual or developmental disabilities, autism, or traumatic brain injury, these skills do not come as naturally. Life skills are an important part of our day, starting when we first wake up, and can include dressing, bathing, personal hygiene and grooming, cooking, shopping, decision making, cleaning, and having skills to acquire and maintain gainful employment.
Teaching life skills can greatly enhance the quality of life for adults with disabilities, and by empowering individuals to perform these self-care tasks, confidence builds where it may have been lacking previously. At Vocational Solutions of Henderson County, we teach life skills to adults with disabilities to promote independence and foster self-reliance. Many adults with disabilities are not given the opportunity to learn these skills, and we provide a safe environment in which to do so. We are internationally accredited, and our non-profit organization believes in arming individuals with skills that will serve them well in their day-to-day lives, as well as building a foundation that can translate into skills that will work well for finding and maintaining employment.
