With an extensive background in manufacturing, mechanical engineering, and computers, Edgar is very well qualified for this job. One of Edgar’s first important tasks has been to prepare the clean room for production, which has included purchasing equipment and work tables. The clean room is a sterile environment in which medical supplies can be processed. The first project will be the Vet Drape program for Haywood Vocational Opportunities. Clients and employees will cut, fold, package, and ship “drapes” for use in veterinary surgery. Income from industrial contract work performed in the clean room will help fund programs and services at Vocational Solutions.
Another goal that Edgar has for the clean room is to make it ISO (International Organization for Standardization) certified for medical work. This certification standard is necessary for many medical material processors, so with this certification the demand for our services should increase.
In addition to working with the clean room, Edgar is doing IT assistance and helping us meet OSHA standards. He has also become certified to train others in using a forklift.
Although new to the VS payroll, Edgar has had contact with Vocational Solutions since 2002 when he worked for an employment agency that provided temporary employees for help with our industrial contracts. Edgar also worked for VS briefly in 2008 when he was a production manager. Through Edgar’s variety of experiences with VS, he has come to appreciate the clients, staff, and services provided and states that he is very happy to be an important part of our staff. We are pleased to welcome him and appreciate having him on our team. We are also grateful to the Sisters of Mercy for providing the grant that made Edgar’s hiring possible.
